How Do You Stay Fit?

We polled Fuse members asking what they do to stay active and healthy.

Here is what they had to say.

Fitness Apps

We are seeing a surge in people using fitness apps for workouts, meal plans, and more. Apps such as 8fit and PEAR are giving people options for working out in their spare time, without a gym membership.

Richland Community Center

Richland Community Center offers a ton of activities, including dance, martial arts, aquatics, sports and other outdoor activities, and more. You can register for classes and start getting fit while learning a new skill!

Backpacking/Hiking Adventures

We live in a state with a lot of beautiful mountains to hike! If you’re a beginner and need some guidance, you can turn to locally-owned Thrive Fitness Adventures. Thrive has events such as guided backpacking and camping trips. You should also check out the Washington Trails Association’s Hiking Guide. They have a ton of information about hiking trails in Washington state.

Gym Classes

Spin classes, aerobic workouts, and other offerings are available at most gyms. Sites like Groupon and Spotted Fox sometimes have deals on classes at gyms. Many even offer classes to people without gym memberships, so make sure you check them out!

Sports

Whether you’re golfing (without using a golf cart!), playing soccer, or participating in some other sport, organized activities can be fun and help keep you fit. The Boys & Girls Club and Unicef both have great information on sports for kids. Active.com has great listings for the whole family!

Run, Bike, Swim

You don’t have to be training for the Triathlon to run, bike, and swim. The Tri-Cities has a number of running tracks, bike trails, and swimming pools. The 3 Rivers Road Runners have running events for all levels, from beginners to athletes. Wheelhouse offers a lot of support for bicyclers, and they have regular biking events and workshops. You can look for swim teams or swimming lessons by visiting Swim Today or Richland Parks and Rec.

Yoga

Yoga has been shown to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and even some chronic physical and mental conditions. People of all ages can practice yoga. Most gyms offer yoga classes, and there are local communities that can help you get started, such as Unity Yoga, the Yoga Community, and Pure Yoga.

Healthy Eating

Diet is a huge part of staying healthy. When we eat foods that provide us with the nutrition we need, we are allowing our bodies to work properly. Without getting the proper amounts of fluids, electrolytes, macronutrients, micronutrients, fats and calories, we can’t get into shape. Some healthy eating blogs can help you plan your meals, such as Helpguide.org, Shape.com, and ChooseMyPlate.gov. You can see a nutritionist if you need more targeted diet advice.

Whatever you do to stay fit, keep it up! If anything you’ve read here makes you think, “I’ve been meaning to do that…” DO IT!

Do it for yourself. Be the healthy person you’ve always wanted to be!
